Yes the Omnimeter could be powered this way but in order to accurately meter electricity the voltage reference wire(s) that are connected to the meter need to be matched up with current transformers (CTs) that are installed on the same phase(s). The Omnimeter is powered by the electrical system that it is metering. Depending on the electrical system the Omnimeter will have 1-3 voltage reference wire connections. If you know what phase your 3 prong outlet is on then powering the meter this way would work to meter electricity. You would just need to install the CT on a wire of the same phase.

The black dials on the PGM-075 rad in increments of whole cubic feet. The red dial reads in 1/10 cubic foot increments. Make sure that the meter is not over pressurized (7.25 PSI max). Yes you can use our electric meters to meter one circuit instead of the main feed to the panel. When using our Omnimeters, the current transformer(s) would be installed on the branch circuit wire(s) instead of the main feed wire(s). Tenants tend to have access to their breaker boxes. Turning off the power to the meter would skew the results. Attaching the meter power to a circuit that the tenant is unlikely to "just go without" is a good idea.

If you are referring to water metering, the Omnimeter Pulse v.4 has separate inputs for counting pulses from water meters. So the Omnimeter can be used to meter electricity and count pulses from water meters at the same time. There is no difference in terms of the meter model but yes there is a 3rd CT and voltage reference connection for 3-phase 4-wire (with neutral) systems. However, there are only 2 CTs needed for metering 3-phase 3-wire (no neutral) systems. In other words: Use 2 CTs for 3-phase 3-wire systems (without neutral, up to 415V). Use 3 CTs for 3-phase 4-wire systems (with neutral, up to 480V). Hi Jody, if your customer is going to be reading their meter with a Push3 gateway (www.ekmmetering.com/collections/all-products/products/ekm-push3-bundle-cloud-data-control-system) then there is no dedicated software required to read the meter. The Dash software, which is used in this video, has been pretty much replaced with online solutions, for EKM Push users. Yes this meter model is suitable for 3-phase 4-wire 240V when paired with 3 current transformers. It is capable of metering up to 480V. The v.3 Omnimeter is also capable of metering the same electrical systems but the v.4 offers a some additional features, like being able to count pulses from water and gas meters. Yes, the CTs can be loosely fit on the wires. Their ability to measure amperage is not affected by a tight fit or a loose fit.

The voltage and neutral reference wires can be 16-22 AWG wire gauges. The CT leads are 22 AWG. The CT leads are twisted because that helps to maintain accuracy if the lead wires run in parallel to other energized wires. It isn't critical that they are twisted but it is best that they remain so if possible.

If I do the CT leads at 22 AWG should I do the red black and white wire at 22 AWG as well? The guy in the video seems to have them all the same size. In fact I thought they were all 18 AWG before you responded to this video. So is it okay if I do the CT Leads at 22 and the red, black, and white wire at 18 AWG? Sorry for all the questions. I recently purchased 2 meters along with all the accessories from the video and none of these wires were listed in the supplies list so I never ordered them as I figured these wires came with the product.

@@julienslefo190 The CTs come with 6 foot leads of 22 AWG wire. The voltage and neutral reference wires do not need to be the same gauge at the CT wires, so 16-22 AWG would be fine for those.

After speaking with my electrician he told me that 14 AWG would be more practical and he said that it appeared that it’s what they were using in the video as well. Will 14 AWG work instead of 16 for the voltage and neutral reference wire?

The Omnimeter Pulse v.4 can handle pulse widths as short as 20ms, so your 80ms pulse should not be a problem at all.

Yes. You can meter individual circuits by installing the CTs on circuit wires where they exit the breaker in side the panel. Everything else would be the same.

The energy source doesn't need to be pressed against it. Also - they can store energy from multiple sources (solar, wind, fossil fuels). They are pretty cool man. They'll be 500+ megapack battery farms within a year or two. And I agree on the re-purposing the 1.9T but I'd like to see the fossil fuel market exist. Don't want to remove jobs. Maybe store more energy then needed and transfer to it out? $

Better world how? Can I ask what the batteries are made of? Can I ask where we get that material? Can I ask how it is harvested? Can I ask what type of environmental impact there is for getting the material and manufacturing the batteries? Can I ask what the environmental and health impact is when one of those energy storage units runs away and catches on fire? Can I ask what the environmental impact will be in 10-20, 30+ years from now when all these solar panels and batteries with finite lifespans are expended? What about the large millions of acres needed and the wildlife displaced from that? Natural Gas power plants are more critical now than ever. I admit they are not the long term solution. But the future you are talking about arrived in April of 1957 with the first electrical generating Nuclear Power Plant. Nuclear is the best energy source, then, now and in the future until we discover something better.

No. The large stacks are from the old Super Critical Power plant. The 4 stacks, if you know what to look for, is a 1000 MW natural gas combined cycle power plant. Hardly a peaker and far more important to the grid that the average person realizes.

Moss Landing has been a major power plant for decades. There used to be 7 natural gas generators, but five have been shut down. There are now two battery farms there, one from Tesla in what used to be the parking lot, and the other by someone else, in the turbine hall, the long building behind the Tesla units. They are located here because the heavy duty power lines are already in place.

Megapack goes up 100x faster as the Controller, Inverter, and BMS are Intergrated into each Megapack. TESLA Powerpacks still require sepreate controller and Inverter Cabnets.

This part of California, and also being next to the Pacific Ocean, almost never gets to the freezing point of water. Not a problem.

"Oh, no. We can't dare spend money to improve the reliability of the grid in California, because it might mean my taxes or electric bill might go up!" PG&E is a private entity, is it not? That means PG&E is the one spending the money. Once that battery farm is in operation to replace that peaker plant, it'll save PG&E quite a bit of money, as those peaker plants are extremely expensive to run, since they're idle most of the time.

It is mainly renewable power investors fronting the $.

The plant next to it I imagine. And if I'm not mistaken that plant is natural gas based. Could be wrong

@@DigitalM_M that'll be odd. Because battery packs are designed to capture renewable energy generated and store it. And I dont see any windmill or solar installations in the video.

@@alexng4 no solar or wind anywhere near it that I know of, unless it was built without telling the locals. I live about 5 mins from moss landing. That natural gas plant is the only power around that I know of

@@DigitalM_M hmm...interesting..so is that natural gas plant one of those peaker plants? Because Tesla's mission is to replace fossil fuel peaker plants with tesla energy storage combined with renewable energy source generated. So this would be a rather odd pairing.
